The focus is on learning through action.

At the start of the session, we will agree on which members of the set will present a challenge within the time available. Participants will then work on real issues or challenges they are facing, collaborating with the group to develop solutions they can put into action. This differs from Supervision, which is a reflective practice focused on the coach’s development

Session Layout:

  • Introduction: A reminder of the action learning set process and ground rules.
  • Presentation of challenges: Participants then present a real coaching-related challenge they are facing.
  • Clarification and questioning: Group members ask clarifying and exploratory questions to deepen their understanding of the challenges. Emphasis on reflective and open-ended questions, rather than advice-giving.
  • Group discussion and feedback: The group collaboratively explores potential solutions, drawing on collective expertise.
  • Reflection and wrap-up: The presenter reflects on key insights gained during the discussion. Participants also reflect on key learning points from the session and how insights could be applied to their coaching.
