Our coach training has drilled into us the distinction between coaching and therapy. We were taught to steer clear of our clients’ trauma.

But studies show that 50 to 70% of people in the UK have experienced or will experience trauma at some point in their lives. A third of them will go on to develop PTSD as a result. Workplace trauma, developmental trauma, intergenerational trauma, collective trauma, intersectional trauma - trauma is everywhere. And it’s in our coaching sessions too.

So what do we do when a client shares a traumatic experience?

  • Do we skirt around it, hoping they will move on?
  • Do we acknowledge it briefly then quickly shift gears?
  • Do we risk turning the session into therapy?
  • What else?

That last beautiful coaching question holds the key. What if there was a way to acknowledge the prevalence and impact of trauma, both on our clients and on ourselves, and integrate this understanding into our coaching practice? What if we could confidently and safely hold space for our clients whilst maintaining appropriate boundaries? What difference would this make to their ability to move from ‘old thinking’ to ‘new thinking’?

By integrating trauma-awareness in our coaching practice we can do just that. Join us on Wednesday 30th April at 12.30pm - 13.30pm to learn more about trauma-informed coaching and its potential to transform your practice and, well... you.
